I think most of y'all have a copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible that you try to read to your kids without crying.
If not, then you should. It is THE best kids' bible ever written.
Sally Lloyd-Jones wrote it and a bunch of other awesome kids' books. I'm going to interview Sally here on the blog. What questions do y'all want me to ask her? Leave me a comment!

it is THE best!!! i started crying today watching the little video for her new book. needless to say it's pre-ordered!!!
ReplyDeleteWhich story is her favorite?
ReplyDeleteI cry in front of my K class everytime I use this Bible for my lessons. They look at me suspiciously :) I tell EVERYONE about this Bible, and tell all young families they must get one!
ReplyDeleteI want to know what was the Bible story book that her family used when she was a child. (Mine was Marian's Big Book of Bible Stories - not the same literary or thematic quality ;-)
Thanks! I love your blog!!! A LOT!! I feel like we're friends. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI just want to know what gave her the idea to write it the way she did, talking about Jesus from the very beginning. It's a concept that so many adults don't even get and now our kids will grow up seeing it that way.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I tried to read the crucifixion chapter out loud, I started weeping so uncontrollably that my oldest left the room in fear, and the other two stared at me with fascination and finally offered me a tissue. After a few minutes I was finally able to choke out the fact that the story really does have a happy ending and that was why I was crying so hard. I'm not sure they bought it. But they still love it. I think it might actually whisper to them.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know Jago's last name. Ask her that.
I Love the JSBB in fact I bought it after reading you mention it on this blog. I am such a fan that I got our church to buy the new Sunday School curr. that goes along with it. We were really surprised to see how, lack of a better word, academic it was. The book itself makes you feel the story and makes it real which is very different from the curr. I am just curious if she has any thoughts on this or if she can give some insight. Our church loves her book so much they asked me to read from it at our Christmas service last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Amy insight into what exactly? I want to make sure I get your question.
DeleteI guess, how does she view the curriculum? Are we missing something? What was the thought process behind it? I am not even sure if she is the one who wrote the curriculum or not. Just curious if she has any comments on how to make the curriculum as powerful as her book. (Please hear that I am not bashing the curriculum. It just wasn't what we had expected and would love to know what she thinks of it.)
DeleteWe love love love this book, too! I can't read any of it w/o tearing up. We are so grateful for it. And everyone who has little ones should definitely get the "Rain For Roots" cd that a group of singers(Sandra McCracken, Katie Bowser, etc.) have just put out. It's the stories from Sally's "Baby's Hug-a-Bible" put to music & it's great! We're all singing the songs aroung here. Ask her if she likes how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteAn alternative use is to buy it and read it yourself, no matter how old you are or what your offsring satus is. it's so helpful in showing that the point of the story, for example, of Moses and Miriam and Aaron, isn't "Don't be like them. They are bad. Be like This good guy instead." The point is that GOd is the hero. God reveals hearts and forgives and protects and restores and heals. God disciplines His Children like a good daddy who wants his kids to understand and grow, not out of spite OR justice.
ReplyDeleteNo matter who you are, that is stuff that is good for you to grasp.
LOVE this bible. my kids do too. and her christmas book is so fabulous.
ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite Bible ever - for kids and adults! In June I went to Africa, and one of the ladies I went with is returning tomorrow. I sent a few of these for some of the kids - I love that they'll be reading the same Bible my kids are reading! Please pass on the thanks of this grateful mom that she wrote these stories in a way that focuses our eyes on the truth.
ReplyDeleteSo often satan attacks us when we are trying to do God's work.....did that happen to Sally while she was working on the Bible? Did she ever feel she was up against it when she was working on it? Did satan try to discourage her?
ReplyDeleteWasn't the actor in the Mel Gibson "Passion of the Christ" movie struck by lightning or something while filming? Satan and his dirtbag ways...
Okay, found an article about the lightning strike from way back when. He wasn't the only one struck while they were making that film.
